REPORTS TO:    News Director

KAPP/KVEW has an opening for a News Anchor/Producer who will be responsible for anchoring our 5:00, 6:00, 6:30 and 11pm newscasts. You’ll also be responsible for producing one or more of our evening newscast programs.  This is a combination position and a great opportunity for someone who loves to produce but also wants great experience as a primary anchor.  This anchor/producer will create a fast-paced, informative and compelling newscast that looks different each day.  You must be aggressive when it comes to breaking news and know how to presents stories that get an audience’s attention.  Detail oriented, excellent writing skills and solid journalistic judgment are vital.  Social media experience is required.  This position is for our Kennewick studio, in the beautiful heart of Washington State’s wine country. We are close to 3 major Northwest Cities including Spokane, Seattle and Portland.  Kennewick offers a great lifestyle for those who love the outdoors or a quick visit to the big city.
    
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Anchor & produce evening newscasts
Develop assigned stories from news leads
Gather and verify factual information regarding stories through interview, observation and research
Publish content and generate story ideas through social media sites like Facebook and Twitter
Contribute story ideas that relate to producing a compelling newscast
Demonstrate leadership by providing direction to new MMJ’s
Assist online staff in preparing for multi media stories
Demonstrate editorial judgment using knowledge of journalism ethics and libel laws
                            
MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:
4 year degree with an emphasis in Journalism or equivalent
Minimum 2 years of experience as a Multi Media Journalist/Anchor
Minimum 1 year of producing experience
Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment
Possess strong broadcast and AP style writing skills
Ability to edit video on Edius editing systems or similar equipment
Experience using I-News writing system preferred but not required
Ability to speak conversation Spanish is a plus but not required
Ability to lift up to 15 lbs. and to sit, walk or stand for long periods
Possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
