For many realtors, summer is a busy season; people are in the market, looking for a new place to live.
Over the past few years, realtors say a lot of those people have made their way to areas like Yakima, attracted by the affordable price tag.
Linda Hammond wants to sell her home before she retires -- she's no stranger to the housing market business.
"I owned a house in Phoenix and sold it within a week," said Hammond, "I owned a house in Spokane and sold it within a week."
According to the Runstad Center for Real Estate Studies, Yakima County consistently ranks as one of the cheapest places to live, followed closely by other counties in our region.
At this same time last year, the median resale price for a home in Yakima is $157,000, Benton and Franklin Counties average about $186,000, and Walla Walla about $174,000.
Sound spendy? Try King county's whopping average of about $420,000.
Local realtors say they've seen house sales go up almost 20% in the past year, their reasoning behind the uptick in home sales? A recovering economy.
"We're starting to see some of the people in Seattle and California come back now," said realtor Jerry Heyen, "When their market was depressed, those numbers fell off, now we're starting to see some buyers."
Hammond acknowledges we live in a buyers market and hopes at least one person stumbles across her house and takes her property off her hands.
"Whatever happens with my house is what happens with my house," said Hammond, "If it sells, it sells."
The median resale price throughout the state is about $250,000.
