Financial education soon coming to public schools

Washington state public schools will soon be adding financial education across the state.

The new curricula will include subjects that teach kids about insurance premiums, credit, debt, risk management, investing, and Roth IRAs.

State officials say it's likely the financial-education subjects will be included in math or social studies classes.

Superintendent of Public Instruction Randy Dorn says the Great Recession might not have affected Americans as severely if they had more knowledge about what banks did with home loans.
