First day of school back in kindergarten or first grade is always a memorable experience for some people it can be a lot of tears-- but this day theres a lot of cheers for this woman's son who just started first grade today.
"He was so excited to go to school for about a month now he's been counting down the days," said Misty Craft
Craft has been here and done this before, her eldest son is a senior in high school. Her youngest son Joshua began 1st grade this week, but just because they are eleven years apart doesn't mean there are no similarities between their school experience.
"My older boy's first grade teacher... Is now my younger boy's first grade teacher," said Craft
The importance of teachers in the early years of elementary school proved to be true in a 2011 Michigan State University study. A researcher looked at classrooms from kindergarten to third grade and found that early education teachers have an effect on students' learning abilities for multiple years. That means students scoring highly in reading tests may be able to thank their kindergarten or first grade teachers for that.
"That's one of the most important things they can discourage them or they can encourage them, they can push them further in their studies or in what they want to be or they can just completely hold them back," said Craft
Craft said she is happy that her son Joshua will be able to get a good learning experience from a trusted teacher. With Craft's youngest now in the education system instead of being at home or in daycare, she says only a few things will change...
