Police Unveil New Smartphone App

If you have a smart phone, the Yakima Police Department has a new app that allows you keep in touch with the department from the comfort of your phone.

Police say the app, which is free to download, allows people to check in with recent police reports, gain access to school resource officers and even report crimes anonymously to the department.

The app also features a most-wanted list for the area, as well as a listing of people who are being housed in the city jail.

"You have to stay on the cutting edge of where your society and where your community is going," said Captain Rod Light, "It's a viable tool and a means to stay connected with your local law enforcement and stay informed as to what's happening."

The app is currently only available on the iPhone, but police say it will be available for Android users in the near future.
