Richland man hurt after wrecking Corvette on Highway 240

A Richland man was hurt and transported to a local hospital after wrecking his sports car Thursday morning.

At about 7:45 a.m., Gene Bumgarner, 66, lost control of his black 2005 Corvette while driving east on Highway 240 in Richland.

He overcorrected, went off the road and landed in a ditch, according to Washington State Patrol.

The car was completely totaled.

Bumgarner was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center with chest injuries.

Troopers said he was driving too fast for the road conditions and charged him with negligent driving.

As of 1:30 p.m., troopers have investigated six crashes in the Tri-Cities area, mostly due to wet, rainy conditions.
