Yakama Nation Moving to Ban Marijuana

The Yakama Nation is moving to ban marijuana in all 10 counties of ancestral land which covers one-fifth of Washington State's land mass.

In the wake of the state's legalization of recreational pot use, the tribe has already banned marijuana on over 1 million acres of reservation land near Yakima.

Under the Yakama Treaty of 1855 with the federal government, the tribe maintains fishing, hunting and food-gathering rights on more than 12 million acres of land in the state.

Now the tribe wants to expand those rights to include a ban on marijuana growth and sales on all of that land.
