1 dead after semi vs. train collision near I-82
PLYMOUTH, Wash. — A man is dead after crashing his semi-truck into a train passing through Plymouth.
Ronald Slagg, 66, was driving about 5 miles west of I-82 near the Columbia River when the collision took place on a private road around 2:30 p.m.
He was transported via Life Flight to Kadlec Regional Medical Center where he later died of his injuries.
His truck was empty when he hit a train pulling 53 cars carrying lighter fluid and acid. No leaks or further injuries were reported and the train sustained minimal damage.
A small brush fire was sparked by the collision and Benton County fire units arrived to put it out.
The driver’s next of kin have been notified and authorities are still investigating the crash.
