One person dead after fall on Mt. Hood
MT. HOOD, Ore. — One person has died after falling on Mt. Hood on Tuesday, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
At 12:12 p.m., deputies learned that a climber with Portland Mountain Rescue (PMR) found the fallen person at about 9,400 feet in the Illumination Saddle area.
An Oregon Army National Guard helicopter was called to assist, but after assessing the situation, deputies said the helicopter was no longer necessary.
A snow cat carrying PMR team members has been sent to recover the person’s body.
This is the third death on Mt. Hood in just over a week.
Two snowboarders died in the same ski area on the mountain within two days on Feb. 17 and 18.
