2 American skiers seek gold in women’s aerials

Olympic rookies Kiley McKinnon and Madison Olsen will be going for gold in the skiing aerials event Friday in PyeongChang.

The first of three finals in the event gets underway at 6 a.m. ET Friday, with the 12-woman field getting cut to nine and then to six for the last final, set for 6:52 a.m.

Kiley McKinnon, 22, of Madison, Connecticut, won silver at the 2015 world championships, the same year she topped the discipline on the World Cup circuit.

More recently, she was fourth at the 2017 world championships. McKinnon also won a World Cup event last month and sits eighth in the current standings for aerials.

Madison Olsen, 22, of Park City, Utah, currently sits 18th in the World Cup aerials standings.

Ashley Caldwell, a three-time Olympian who is the event’s reigning world champion, did not advance to the finals, after failing to land either of her triple-flipping jumps in Thursday’s qualifying.
