2 schools go on lockdown in Richland, gunman at large
Police are searching for a gunman who led two Richland schools to go on lockdown.
At about 1:20 p.m., they received reports of a man with a pistol in the 2000 block of Mahan Avenue. He was later seen on foot moving toward Newcomer Street.
A few minutes later, police called officials at Sacajawea Elementary and Chief Joseph Middle School. The schools went on lockdown for roughly 30 minutes, according to Police Capt. Cobb.
Chief Joseph Vice Principal Kevin Norris said almost all students were off campus during the lockdown. They were released early for summer vacation.
The suspected gunman is still at large.
He’s described as a white male standing 6-foot-8 and about 220 pounds tall.
Police checked two homes he is known to frequent in the area. The suspect as not found at either residence.
Police believe he left the area in a vehicle.
