YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. — There’s been at least four serious injury collisions in Yakima County in the past week, leaving three people dead and a fourth person in critical condition.

Pedestrian struck, critically injured at 40th Avenue & Tieton Drive in Yakima

Family members told KAPP-KVEW 26-year-old Carollee Fisher was walking on South 40th Avenue on Monday afternoon when she attempted to cross Tieton Drive using the crosswalk and was struck by a car.

Police said the car was being driven by a 64-year-old man, who told officers he didn’t see the woman.

“The driver was eastbound on Tieton and going to turn southbound onto 40th Avenue,” Yakima Police Capt. Shawn Boyle said. “He slowed down for the light and apparently didn’t see the young lady.”

Police said there’s no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved.

Fisher was taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital for treatment, then taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she remains in critical condition.

Prosser man dies in car crash near Selah

Washington State Patrol troopers said a 25-year-old Prosser man was traveling north on State Route 823 about 7:18 p.m. Monday when he attempted to pass a car near Pomona Road, northeast of Selah.

“That driver did an illegal, unsafe pass and hit another pickup head on,” Trooper Chris Thorson said.

The 25-year-old man died from his injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, a 44-year-old man, was injured in the crash and taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Road worker struck, killed in suspected DUI crash near Selah

Washington State Patrol troopers said 51-year-old Bonnie Stewart, of Pasco, was working at an active road construction site on State Route 823 about 1:30 a.m. on May 15 when she was struck by a car and died from her injuries.

Troopers said the 21-year-old Toppenish woman driving the vehicle appeared to be intoxicated and when tested, had a blood alcohol level of .272 — more than three times the legal limit in Washington state, which is .o8.

According to court documents, the suspect told investigators, “she was at a party in Selah trying to go home and that she was driving.”

The 21-year-old was arrested and booked into the Yakima County jail on suspicion of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.

20-year-old dies in car crash near Yakima Speedway

A 20-year-old man died in a car crash on May 18 near the Yakima Speedway — the third fatal crash in the area in less than two years. Police said

Yakima Police Sgt. Jay Seely said the man was driving a Volkswagen Gulf on Pacific Avenue when he tried to pass another car at a high speed using the center turn lane, left the roadway and struck a tree.

“He was killed instantly,” Seely said. “He was only a few blocks from his home at the time.”

Seely said investigators found speed was a factor in the crash and believe alcohol may have been involved.
