3 young children, 2 adults injured in wrong way collision on I-82

Five people were injured, including three children, when an SUV drove down Interstate 82 in the wrong lane.

Luis Torres, 24, drove his green 2008 Ford Escape going east in the westbound lane of the highway near milepost 71. Graciela Torres, 27, and kids ages 1, 3 and 4 were also in the car.

The SUV ran into the trailer of a semi-truck then struck the guardrail.

No one in Torres’ vehicle was wearing a seatbelt.

The driver and all four passengers were injured in the collision and taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital.

The semi-truck driver was not injured, but his truck was noticeably damaged. He was wearing a seatbelt.

The Ford Escape was totaled and impounded at the Yakima State Patrol Bullpen.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor in this collision.
