61-year-old Selah man attacked in late shift robbery
WHITE SWAN, Wash. — A man was beat with a flashlight during a robbery in White Swan near Yakima early Tuesday morning.
The 61-year-old Selah resident of Native American descent was working the late shift at a local business in the 3500 block of Wesley Road.
A man wearing a mask and camouflage clothing entered the breakroom with a knife, deputies said. The victim went to grab a pistol in a nearby duffel bag and the two struggled over the gun. The robber got hold of the pistol, fleeing with it and other personal property, deputies said.
The victim initially said he was struck with the pistol, but later clarified the robber used a flashlight to strike him several times. He sustained minor injuries from the attack.
The Yakama Nation Police Department and Yakima County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene at about 1 a.m.
Yakima County Sheriff’s deputies are still looking for the suspect.
The armed suspect is described as a 5-foot-10 male of Native American or Latino descent.
