73-year-old driver dies in central Oregon head-on crash

A 73-year-old Prineville resident was killed in a head-crash with a commercial truck in central Oregon on Wednesday.

The driver was northbound on Highway 97 on the southern end of Redmond in a passenger car when the crash happed around 9 a.m.

Oregon State Police say for unknown reasons, the driver crossed into the southbound lanes and collided head-on with a Bend Roof Truss truck driven by a 48-year-old Bend resident Kavan Rose.

The driver died at the scene.

Rose was transported to St. Charles Redmond with injuries.

Highway 97 was closed for about three and a half hours while authorities investigated the crash.

The identity of the driver who was killed will not be released until next of kin is notified.
