A Holocaust survivor was fatally struck by a car Tuesday night in the Portland suburb of Hillsboro.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports 92-year-old Alter Wiener was walking across North Century Boulevard near Brighton Street when he was hit by a Honda Accord around 5 p.m. He was transported to a hospital where he died, Hillsboro police said.

Wiener spent three years in Nazi concentration camps and later wrote a well-known book called, “From a Name to a Number: A Holocaust Survivor’s Autobiography.”

The 50-year-old driver who hit him was cooperative with police and will not be charged or cited, police said.
