A Yakima County Deputy is Being Hailed a Hero After Rescue

A Yakima County Sheriff’s Deputy in being called a hero after rescuing a man from a burning vehicle this morning.

Deputy Justin Swale was driving on Highway 97 when he observed a pickup collide with a center barrier.

As he approached the vehicle, flames started shotting out from underneath the truck. Deputy Swale attempted to pull the driver out, but the driver gripped the wheel and lost their ability to move. Moments before the flames engulfed the vehicle, Deputy Swale was able to free the man.

Swale suffered smoke inhalation from minor cuts, but nothing serious. The driver was transported to a local hospital.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating the crash.
