Update: missing 8-year-old with autism found safe

Washington State Recognizes Today as National AMBER Alert Day

Seattle – Police say a child taken from North Seattle just before 3:30 Monday morning has been found safe, although investigators have not released any details about how or where they found her.

Police say Kiya Matteson and her mother were in a blue Hyundai Venue with temporary tags, with a man in the passenger seat.  Police say the mother got out of the vehicle, and then the man jumped into the driver’s seat, locked the doors, and took off.

Police say Kiya is 8 years old, about 4 feet tall and 40 pounds.  She has shoulder-length, wavy blond hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing purple pajamas.

The Amber Alert report says the person who drove away with her is a 24-year-old man, nearly 6 feet tall and about 170 pounds, with a large Afro, brown eyes, and black hair. The report does not give his name, or say why he was in the vehicle.  So far investigators have not released pictures of the child or the suspect.

Seattle Police tweeted a picture of a 2022 Hyundai Venue, although the Amber Alert said the vehicle law enforcement was looking for had damage on the passenger side of the hood, and on the rear bumper.

The Amber Alert covered the entire state of Washington.
