American leads Masters heading into 3rd round, but not Tiger or Phil
Augusta National itself proved to be the biggest obstacle for Friday’s second round.
Just 16 golfers out of 87 in the field broke par for the day. American Patrick Reed played a later round and caught fire for a nine-birdie 9 under round of 66 to take a two-shot lead heading into the weekend.
Reed holds a slight lead over Australian Marc Leishman who shot a 5 under 67 putting him at 7 under.
Tiger Woods struggled for a second day shooting a 3 over 74, but managed to make the cut. Fellow American Phil Mickelson also struggled shooting a 7 over 78 and was among the last few players to make the cut at 5 over.
Also on the leaderboard is Henrik Stenson of Sweden. The Masters is the only major where Stenson hasn’t recorded a top-10 finish.
Stenson is tied with Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth, who fired a 3 over 74 on Friday.
