Armed robbery suspects light stolen getaway car on fire after robbing Milton-Freewater store, deputies say
MILTON-FREEWATER, Ore. — Umatilla County deputies are still looking for two men who robbed a store clerk at gunpoint on Friday morning.
Around 6:30 a.m., two men walked into the First Stop Mart in Milton-Freewater at 85712 Highway 11. The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office said one of the men told an employee to go to the safe, while being held at gunpoint. The man fired one round at an electronic device that connected the internet to the store. The employee could not open the safe.
During the robbery, another customer came into the store. The second suspect, who said he had a weapon, went up to the customer and stole their wallet. Both of the men ran out and got into a black Honda, possibly a Civic.
Shortly after, someone said there was a car on fire near Appleton and Tum-A-Lum roads, about one mile away from the store.
The car was on fire in an orchard, which matched the same description as the car possibly involved in the robbery. Deputies determined it was also stolen the day before. Investigators at the store learned that one of the suspects took a butane lighter.
According to the sheriff’s office, one suspect is described as a man, about 6’ tall wearing blue jeans. His age is unknown.
The other suspect is described as a man, whose age is unknown, about 5’6” to 5’9”. He was wearing blue jeans, tan work boots, a dark-colored baseball cap and had a black backpack. His face was covered with a light blue bandana.
It’s not clear what else they got away with from the store. If you know anything about any of the crimes that occurred, call the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office.
