Authorities bust cockfighting ring in Grant County
MOSES LAKE, Wash. – Several law enforcement agencies busted an illegal cockfighting ring Thursday between Quincy and Ephrata.
Authorities served a search warrant around 8:30 a.m. at 9410 Road J.4-Northwest in Winchester. The search stemmed from a yearlong investigation into an illegal gambling operation that featured cockfighting.
Investigators found 13 birds that were physically modified to reduce blood loss during cockfighting. Those birds were humanely euthanized. Investigators also found quantities of illegal drugs.
The raid was comprised of detectives from Grant County’s Interagency Narcotics Enforcement Team (INET), sheriff’s animal control deputies, agents from Washington’s Gambling Commission and officers from Quincy Police.
Reymundo Garcia, 56 of Ephrata, was arrested and booked at the Grant County Jail for investigation of running the illegal cockfighting operation, animal cruelty, possession of psilocybin mushrooms and cocaine, and possession with intent to deliver heroin and methamphetamine.
The investigation continues.
