Authorities search for man lost in the Yakima River
GRANGER, Wash.– Authorities search for a 27-year old man thought to have drowned while swimming in the Yakima River.
The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office said the man went to the river near the Granger Boat Launch with a couple of friends after work, who told officials the victim was not a good swimmer and noticed him struggling in the water a few feet from shore.
The friends said they attempted to reach him before he went under the water, but were unsuccessful. They said 911 was contacted immediately after and continued to search for their friend until emergency responders arrived.
The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office is assisted by the Granger Police Department, Granger Fire Department, Yakima County Fire District 5, and Washington State Patrol. Responders searched the riverbank below the incident location with no success.
Officials said the victim is a California resident who had been in the local area working. His name has not been released, pending family notification.
