Avalanche hits Silver Mountain ski area, four people found

UPDATE 3: 50 p.m. – The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office says one person was killed and five people were rescued. The person who was killed has not yet been identified. Silver Mountain is working with Seach and Rescue to look for more people.

SHOSHONE CO., Idaho — Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that an avalanche, possibly up to three separate avalanches, hit Silver Mountain this morning.

Four people have been recovered from the avalanche, which hit the Wardner Peak ski area. Silver Mountain Ski Patrol is working with Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, and Volunteer Search and Rescue crews to look for more people.

There is currently no word on the recovered people’s condition.
