Bail set at $1 million for Toppenish man accused of killing father
TOPPENISH, Wash. — UPDATE: A judge set bail at $1 million for Anthony Darius Ashlock on Monday afternoon at his preliminary appearance in Yakima County Superior Court.
Ashlock is being held in the Yakima County jail on suspicion of second-degree murder after authorities say he shot and killed his father.
Authorities say a 42-year-old man was shot and killed in Toppenish over the weekend and that his son has been arrested on suspicion of his father’s murder.
Ryan Ashlock, 42, reportedly called police just after 10 a.m. Saturday to report he’d been shot by his 20-year-old son.
Dispatchers lost contact with Ryan and arriving deputies found him dead in a pickup truck in a field near McKinley and Branch roads, court documents said.
Anthony Darius Ashlock, 20, was found a short distance away from the scene, walking down Branch Road, according to court documents.
Deputies say Anthony told them he and his father had a fight in the pickup, after which Ryan kicked him out of the car. Anthony reportedly refused to provide further details.
Investigators believe the actual shooting took place at a home near Branch and Campbell roads, where they found multiple shell casings and marks from where a vehicle had “peeled out” of the driveway, court documents said.
Deputies say a Snapchat video from Anthony’s profile on Friday showed him with large amounts of marijuana and a black pistol.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
Anthony is being held in the Yakima County jail on suspicion of second-degree murder. He’s scheduled to make a preliminary appearance Monday in Yakima County Superior Court.
