Basketball Tournament Brings in Tourism

Over two dozen schools are in Yakima this weekend competing against each other.

It’s part of the 15th annual Wilbur Ellis SunDome Shootout, hosted by Zillah High School.

It gives schools from across the state the opportunity to play against other schools ranging from class 4A to 2B.

This year’s tournament features boys teams, including local teams from Yakima and Kennewick — and is a good opportunity to bring people to Yakima.

“[there are] 28 teams here coming from all over the state, it’s good for Yakima, it brings a little tourism to the town this time of the year when there’s no a lot going on,” said tournament organizer Doug Burge, “Some people stay here in hotels and eat at the local establishments, and we obviously put on a good basketball tournament.

The shootout ran from Friday through the end of today.
