BCFD #1 levy passing, bond failing
BENTON CO., Wash. — Benton County Fire District #1 is seeing some success and failure of their two propositions that were on Tuesday night’s ballot.
As of 2 p.m. on Wednesday, the district’s levy was passing with a 55% approval rating. It will cost $1.50/$1,000 of assessed property value and will cover day-to-day expenses of all the district’s stations.
The $3 million bond, on the other hand, would have gone towards the remodeling of the Badger Canyon station and a new engine for one of the fire trucks. It required a 60% majority to pass but only got 52% in the latest update.
“That just leaves us a little bit of work to do and get the message out how important it is,” Chief Lonnie Click said. “The need is still there to do the capital improvements of apparatus and facilities.”
Click said the district will look into holding additional information meetings over the next few months before putting the bond on the November ballot.
