BENTON CITY, Wash. — Deputies are looking for a stolen car that was involved in a chase in Benton City on Monday morning.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office said the car was a silver 1997 Honda Civic with Washington plate APX8896. It had been reported stolen out of Kennewick earlier that day.

A deputy spotted the car at Old Inland Empire Highway and Highland Road just before 9 a.m. It was being followed by another car, which was suspected to have been involved in the case.

The stolen car fled at high speeds and was last seen in the area of 14th Street and Kendall Road before getting away. The other vehicle was found at a home on Ninth Street.

The driver of the second car, 25-year-old Jason Vargas, was arrested and booked at the Benton County Jail for suspicion of rendering criminal assistance and making a false statement.

Anyone who sees the stolen car is asked to call 911.
