KENNEWICK, Wash. — After colliding with another vehicle while riding through an intersection in the Tri-Cities, a deputy from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office was injured and transported to an area hospital for medical treatment.

According to a social media alert from the BCSO, the deputy was driving east on 27th Ave approaching Oak St in Kennewick just after 9:00 a.m. on June 27, 2022. Authorities say he approached a stop sign, looked both ways and proceeded through the intersection.

That’s when the patrol car and a driver in a Blue Buick traveling north on Oak St collided, causing both vehicles to suffer damage and settle in the roadway. The deputy was checked at the scene and confirmed to have suffered minor injuries. They were transported to one of the region’s hospitals for further treatment and evaluation. No further details regarding the status or condition of the injured deputy have been disclosed at this time,

Benton County officials say their initial investigation found that the driver of the Buick failed to stop at the stop sign, but that hasn’t been confirmed by the follow-up investigation.

Additionally, BCSO officials say the driver of the Buick was checked out at the scene and declined any further treatment.

Tow trucks carried the patrol car from the scene due to extensive damage while troopers from the Washington State Patrol were called to conduct an official investigation into what occurred. Their findings haven’t been shared with the public
