Benton County, Walla Walla firefighters could be heading back from California
Firefighters from multiple agencies in Benton County and Walla Walla could soon be heading home from California.
A strike team left for California on Oct. 28 to help battle the Kincade Fire. Crews from Washington state are scheduled to be demobilized today. They are on stand-by as they wait to get word if they’ll be helping out with another fire in the state, or they get to come home.
As of Sunday morning, it’s 76% contained and has burned more than 77,000 acres, according to Cal Fire.
Firefighters from Benton County Fire District 1 and 2, Walla Walla Fire Department, and Walla Walla Districts 4 and 8 make up the team there right now.
During their time in California, they assisted with road access, clearing debris and keeping the fire at bay.
According to Benton County Fire District 1, California had as many as 52,000 personnel help with the fire.
