Big Lexus sedan fully redesigned for 2018
All-new LS 500 sedan revealed in Detroit
DETROIT — Lexus’ flagship sedan is getting a complete redesign for 2018.
The company showed off the new LS 500 sedan Monday at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It’s the same show where, 28 years ago, Lexus showed off the very first LS sedan.
This fifth generation of the car continues the big sedan’s history of performance with a twin-turbo V6 engine that the company says will out-perform V8 engines of its competitors.
Inside, the car has all the luxury one would expect from a Lexus with premium leather seats and lots of connected technology. For the driver there’s even a 24-inch heads-up display to assist in providing the car’s latest information.
Safety is also important in the new sedan with a suite of assistive technologies like adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist. There’s even a system to protect pedestrians which will even steer the car out of the way to avoid someone walking.
All this safety and technology is wrapped in a car that is up to 200 pounds lighter than its predecessor thanks to smart use of aluminum and high strength steel.
Lexus expects the new LS 500 to go on sale late this year.
