Rio Barber joined the KAPP/KVEW team as a reporter in December of 2018.

She was born and raised in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and graduated from the University of Washington with a major in communications and a minor in music. During her time there, she started working for UWTV as an admin assistant and eventually became a freelance producer. She also interned with King 5 News and produced segments for the student-run, UW Daily’s Doubleshot.

The highlight of her college years was when she represented the Filipino Community of Seattle in the Seafair Scholarship Program for Women. She went on to win the title of Miss Seafair 2013-2014 and served as a spokesperson for the festival. Aside from hanging out with clowns and pirates at parades, her favorite part of the job was getting to speak at elementary and high schools about the importance of giving back to their communities. She is excited to get to share the stories of her new community here in the Tri-Cities and Yakima.

When Rio isn’t reporting, she enjoys singing, going on road trips and hanging out with her sweet pup, Storm.
