Boy, 12, arrested for bringing pistol to Prosser middle school

PROSSER, Wash. — A 12-year-old student at Housel Middle School was arrested Tuesday for allegedly bringing a gun to school.

Around 4 p.m. Tuesday, the Prosser Police Department got a call from an after school program in Prosser about a possible weapons complaint.

A 13-year-old girl told police she saw a pistol in the boy’s waistband during math class at the middle school toward the end of the day. Officers talked to several other witnesses who substantiated her claim.

The suspect admitted that he had a gun at school and was taken into custody peacefully. Police recovered the pistol.

After further investigation, police said they found no indication that the boy planned to use the gun at school. He said he brought it to school for protection.

The boy was taken to the Benton County Juvenile Justice Center for booking. He faces charges for possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a deadly weapon on school grounds.
