TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - A Brinnon, Washington man was sentenced to six months in prison and fined $25,000 for trafficking ivory from protected species.U.S. Attorney Annette Hayes says David L. Boone took part in an operation between 2006 and 2008 that smuggled narwhal tusks from Canada into the U.S.Narwhals are Arctic whales that are often called the "Unicorn of the Sea" because of their prominent tusk.Hayes says Boone sold the tusks on the black market at a huge profit.

Boy pleads not guilty in Freeman High School shooting

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - A 15-year-old boy has pleaded not guilty in a school shooting that left one classmate dead and three wounded in Washington state.Court documents released Tuesday revealed that Caleb Sharpe entered the plea Friday during a brief court appearance two days after the shooting at rural Freeman High School.Sharpe, a sophomore, is charged as a juvenile with one count of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder.

$1 million bond set for suspected kidnapper who admitted to killing Cameron Smith

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - A man arrested in the kidnapping of a Cheney marijuana store employee has given a jailhouse confession to a Spokane television station.Donovan Culps told KHQ-TV Monday that he shot Cameron Smith several times after Smith declined to sell him pot products because he didn't have identification.The 36-year-old Culps told the station he was having a bad day and that Smith "got the ugly side of it."

Oregon man sentenced to 25 years in shooting death

OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) - An Oregon man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the 2015 shooting death of a man inside a mobile home.The Oregonian/OregonLive reports Jeremy Bonsignore pleaded guilty in Clackamas County to burglary and manslaughter. As part of a plea deal, charges of murder and aggravated murder were dropped.The 27-year-old was scheduled to plead guilty last week, but had a seizure in the courtroom.

Oregon man pleads guilty to killing ex-girlfriend

SALEM, Ore. (AP) - A Salem man has pleaded guilty to killing his ex-girlfriend.The Statesman Journal reports ( ) that Cristian Acosta's plea allowed him to avoid a possible death sentence. A judge will decide later this year whether to sentence him to life without parole or give him the chance for parole after 30 years.The 23-year-old Acosta is not a U.S. citizen, and would face deportation if he is eventually released from prison.
