Climate Pledge Arena ready to get Kraken for hockey debut

The home of Seattle's new NHL team is about ready for its hockey debut on Saturday night when the Kraken host the Vancouver Canucks. The arena will have its first official event Friday night when Coldplay performs and it also hosted a benefit concert featuring Foo Fighters. The arena project started nearly five years ago when Oak View Group was selected by the city of Seattle to renovate the original Seattle Center Coliseum. The final cost of the project is expected to exceed $1 billion.

Garth Brooks cancels tour dates due to COVID surge

Garth Brooks is canceling his tour dates in five cities, citing a rising number of COVID-19 cases. The country star restarted touring in July and regularly performs in front of sold-out stadium crowds. But Brooks says after reassessing the situation, he will cancel his planned next shows in Ohio, North Carolina, Maryland, Massachusetts and Tennessee. He also had planned to play in Seattle but declined to put tickets on sale. Brooks said in a statement that he had thought the pandemic was falling behind but realized that we are still in the fight, and he must do his part.

Elton John adds dates to final tour, including stadium shows

Elton John has announced the final dates for his farewell tour, which includes stops at big stadiums in the U.S. “Elton John Farewell Yellow Brick Road: The Final Tour” will visit Frankfurt, Germany, on May 27, 2022, and will make several stops throughout Europe, including Milan, Liverpool and Paris. John also announced dates in North America, kicking off those shows on July 15, 2022 in Philadelphia. He will wrap the North American trek with two shows in Los Angeles on November 19 and 20, 2022. In 2023 he will play in New Zealand and Australia before wrapping up the tour, which began in 2018.
