See3Slam Tournament returns to Richland July 2022

RICHLAND, Wash. – The See3Slam Tournament returns July 9-10, 2022, after a two-year hiatus during the worst of the pandemic.  Tri-Cities Sunrise Rotary Event Director Terry Fleischman says this year’s tournament is on track to be as big as 2019 – but that all depends on a surge of last-minute team registrations.

Team registration costs $165, and the last minute in this case is midnight on June 30th.  The money raised goes towards “Gifting the Gift of Sight,” which provides life-changing surgery in Africa.

“What people don’t realize is that for every $50 that they’re paying in their registration fee, they’ve just given somebody eyesight. That’s what it costs to do that cataract surgery. And now you’re restoring sight. So you’re out there on the streets having fun – but those dollars go back directly to that charity,” Fleischman says.

There are divisions for every age, and every skill level, with championship t-shirts for the winners.  While See3Slam follows the same rules as Spokane’s Hoopfest, Fleischman says there is one important difference: every team is guaranteed at least three games.  She says that can be confusing to first-timers.

“So, you win a game, you’re in the winners’ division,” Fleischman explained. “You win again; you’re in the winners’ division. If you lose a game, you’re in the losers’ division. So if you’ve lost twice and you’re popped into the losers’ bracket, you can come back and win the entire thing.”

The tournament is a partnership between the City of Richland and the Tri-Cities Sunrise Rotary Club.  In addition to basketball courts taking over George Washington Way for the weekend, there will be a climbing wall, a skills contest with a $1,000 prize, food trucks, and other vendors.

If 3-on-3 isn’t your style, or a weekend tournament won’t fit your schedule, you can still take part by signing up as a volunteer. Opportunities range from helping with set-up and tear-down to staffing the information desk; delivering water to the courts; and keeping score for the referees!  You can pick the time and day that works best by clicking here.
