Coast Guard suspends search for 4-year-old boy swept out to sea in Oregon
ARCH CAPE, Ore. — A 7-year-old girl is dead and a 4-year-old boy is missing after a man holding them was swept away by waves off the Oregon Coast at Falcon Cove.
On Saturday afternoon, Oregon State Police say Jeremy Stiles, 47, went into the ocean at the cove near Arch Cape and Astoria. A wave picked them all up, sweeping them into the ocean.
A Manzanita officer arrived and saw Stiles struggling to get out and the 7-year-old further out. The officer was able to grab the girl and bring her to shore.
The child was brought to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The United States Coast Guard was brought in to search for the missing 4-year-old boy. They suspended to search on Saturday night.
According to our media partners at Q13, the Coast Guard suspended their search on Sunday as well.
Stiles was also sent to the hospital, but his condition is not known at this time.
