After many months of planning, a new wine village is finally opening in Kennewick.

On Friday, Columbia Gardens Urban Wine and Artisan Village will celebrate its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The event will feature wines from local wineries including Bartholomew and Monarcha. All ages are welcome.

Victor Palencia is one of the two vendors at the village. He’s been in the wine industry since he was 18 years old and is excited to be in the Tri-Cities.

“This is the epicenter of wine country so I’m excited to be part of that growth,” Palencia said. “We want this new facility to be part of an educating process as well as a place you can enjoy yourself and enjoy the fruits of our labor.”

Phase one of the project included three of the buildings that will house the wineries as well as a trail to walk on along the Columbia River. The next phases will include adding a culinary school, food truck circle and more wineries.

The City and Port of Kennewick have been working on the project for years. Terry Walsh, an executive director for the city, said a lot of thought went into it.

“We were trying to figure out how to revitalize and redevelop the downtown area,” Walsh said. “We wanted to make it a gathering place where people can go and meet and have fun.”

The ceremony will be on Feb. 9 at 2:30 p.m. at 421 E Columbia Drive.
