Community members raise funds in support of struggling Sunset Theatre in Connell
CONNELL, Wash. – Community members are showing support for the owners of a local movie theatre, as they struggle amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic shutdown.
Dirk Reinauer and Jeri Reinauer have owned and operated the Sunset Theatre in Connell for decades, and two days ago they started a GoFundMe called ‘Save the Sunset Theatre.’
They wrote online, “We hate asking for money but the theatre has been closed since March due to COVID19 restrictions and while we still have lots of bills to pay we have had no income other than weekend popcorn sales since then. We of course greatly appreciate everyone who continues to support us that way, but it doesn’t cover all of our expenses.”
According to the owners, they are having trouble paying for several monthly loans on top of insurance and utility bills.
They also say they have been denied for both an SBA Disaster Loan and a Paycheck Protection Loan.
“All donations will go directly to paying bills so that we can reopen as soon as we are allowed to. Thank you very much! We will do our best to pay it forward,” they wrote.
Sunset Theatre has been in business since 1952.
Their GoFundMe has exceeded it’s initial set goal of $10,000. As of early Monday morning, over $12,000 had been raised.
