Cool Desert Nights car show kicks off June 23
RICHLAND, Wash. — It’s more than a car show.
Cool Desert Nights is the annual Tri-Cities event for all who love hot rods, sports cars, classic American muscle, vintage trucks, fancy motorcycles and everything in between.
The event goes from June 23 through June 25.
Thursday, June 22
The first day kicks off with registration from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Red Lion Hotel on 802 George Washington Way in Richland.
It will be followed by a Shine N’ Show from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Dairy Queen on Jadwin.
Friday, June 23
Registration will be at the Richland Red Lion from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., then at the Uptown Center registration trailer behind Denny’s from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Les Schwab is hosting two events on Friday:
The Les Schwab Poker Run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants will need to visit all six locations in the area and collect a poker cards. All poker cards must be submitted by 2 p.m. at the tire center on 2825 Queensgate Dr. in Richland.
Winners of the Poker Run will be announced at the Les Schwab Shine N’ Show from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Queensgate location.
Autozone is hosting a participant-only cruise from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. It is Cool Desert Nights’ most popular event. Registered cars will be lining up for the cruise at 6 p.m. in the U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building parking lot at 825 Jadwin Ave. in Richland.
Saturday, June 24
Registration is from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Uptown Center behind Denny’s.
A pancake breakfast hosted by Kiwanis will be from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Jefferson Park Gazebo across from the Uptown Shopping Center. Adults (12 & older) can eat for $6 and kids (6-11) eat for $4. All kids age 5 and under eat free.
The Show N’ Shine will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Uptown Shopping Center and Jefferson Park. It will include music, vendors, concessions, entertainment and family activities.
Judging will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A Poker Walk will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and participants will have to visit all participating businesses in the Uptown Mall on George Washington Way. Poker hands must be turned in by 2 p.m. There will be 22 winners, which will all be announced by 3:15 p.m.
An awards ceremony will be held in front of the Uptown Center at 3:30 p.m.
There will be a party at John Dam Plaza from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. Attendees must be 21 or older.
Sunday, June 25
The last day of the event will be at the Tri-City Raceway on the corner of Keene and Van Giesen. Participants are invited to try autocross and drive all types of cars. Three runs cost $10 for drivers. Spectators are free.
