WEST RICHLAND, Wash. – The Benton County Coroner has determined the cause of death of a man shot by a deputy Tuesday night.

Douglas West, 46, was killed as a result of multiple gunshot wounds to the right arm and torso. The manner of his death was ruled a homicide, simply meaning one person killing another.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance in the 3700 block of Hazelwood Drive in West Richland around 10:40 p.m. West’s wife said he was armed and threatening officers.

West exited his residence with a shotgun and subsequently shot by Benton County Deputy John Clary.

West was transported to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland where he died of his injuries.

Clary was placed on administrative leave as is standard for all officer-involved shootings.
