Dealership gives 2018 Subaru to Mid-Columbia Meals on Wheels

Mid-Columbia Meals on Wheels has a brand new ride for delivering food to local seniors living in rural areas.

The nonprofit delivery service’s Tri-Cities branch received a 2018 Subaru Outback from McCurley Subaru in Pasco Thursday morning.

The new wheels will primarily be used to bring food to elderly folks in rural areas like Kahlotus, Basin City, Mesa, Plymouth and beyond. These are places that Meals on Wheels has a very hard time reaching, according to Meals on Wheels Nutrition Director Marcee Woffinden.

“We are not able to serve those rural areas at all right now,” Woffinden said, adding that the all-terrain car will greatly increase their ability to serve those areas in the future.

It was one of 50 Outback SUVs donated to different Meals on Wheels locations nationwide as part of Subaru America’s 50th anniversary celebration.

Last year, Mid-Columbia Meals on Wheels volunteers drove over 93,000 miles and donated over 25,000 hours of their time to the program.

McCurley has been helping support the program for the past nine years, and a spokesperson said the dealership plans to continue their support for many years to come.
