Demolition of I-82, SR 397 bridge girder underway following damage
BENTON COUNTY, Wash. — WSDOT has started to demolish a Benton County bridge girder after a truck hit it in December.
Delays are expected on State Route 397 under I-82 at Locust Grove Road during construction. The road will remain open, but drivers can use Coffin or Badger Road interchanges as detours.
On Dec. 16, an oversized load hit the bottom of the bridge and damaged a girder that supports the eastbound shoulder of I-82. A few weeks later, Gov. Jay Inslee issued a state of emergency to fund the repairs.
The section of roadway is expected to open back up by the weekend. The second round of construction, which will be the installation of the new girder, will be done by early spring.
