Deputy who struck 13-year-old boy while responding to home invasion identified
HARRAH, Wash. — Authorities have released the names that the Yakima County Sheriff’s officer who was behind the wheel when he hit a teen while responding to a home invasion.
Officials said Sgt. Bate Boyer believed he saw the suspect run off into a hayfield off of Branch and Brownstown roads early Saturday morning.
Boyer began following the suspect in his patrol car and ended up hitting a 13-year-old boy. The teen was taken to local hospital before being flown to a Seattle hospital.
It is unknown if the teen was the suspect in the home invasion. Officials said the boy is a member of the Yakima Nation. He remains in serious condition.
Sgt. Boyer is an eleven year veteran of the sheriff’s office. He is now on paid administrative leave while the incident is being investigated by the Yakima County Special Investigation Unit.
