Driver in crash that killed 75-year-old woman in Umatilla County facing DUI, manslaughter charges

A 75-year-old woman was killed Friday night in a two-vehicle crash in Umatilla County.

Oregon State Police say Alicia Salasand her husband, Elidio Salas De La Paz, were southbound on Highway 395 at about 10 p.m. when Salas De La Paz attempted to make a left hand turn onto East Punkin Center Road.

Police say Michelle Dawn Fry, 45, was traveling north on the highway, failed to stop at a red light at the intersection and crashed into the couple’s car.

Salas De La Paz, 77, and Salas, 75, were both taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston, Ore., where Salas was pronounced dead. Alicia Salas was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Fry was arrested and booked into the Umatilla County Jail on suspicion of second-degree manslaughter, aggravated assault, DUII, reckless driving, reckless endangering and second-degree criminal mischief. She’s being held in lieu of $290,000 bail.
