KENNEWICK, Wash. — A cougar was found dead along State Route 240 near Edison after being hit by a vehicle Monday morning.

Around 7:15 a.m., the Washington State Patrol got a call about dead cougar on the shoulder of SR 240 westbound near the Columbia Park Golf Course, according to Trooper Chris Thorson.

Members of the Washington State Department of Transportation picked up the cougar’s carcass and transported it away from the scene. Troopers did not respond, Thorson told KAPP-KVEW.

Kennewick Police Det. Kirk Nebeker said the cougar was hit by a car. He posted photos of the carcass on Facebook, which Trooper Thorson shared on Twitter. The driver apparently did not stop.
