DUI driver crashes into, injures WSP trooper in College Place
UPDATE – According to Trooper Chris Thorson, the driver at fault was “fleeing the scene of a theft at Walmart in College Place” when the crash happened.
COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – A Washington State Patrol trooper was struck by a man driving under the influence in College Place on Sunday night, according to their department.
Troopers say around 10:15 p.m., 30-year-old Matthew R. Hammond of Walla Walla was driving eastbound on Taumarson Road and then turned south onto Peppers Bridge Road where he struck a trooper traveling northbound.
Hammond, his passenger 39-year-old Symantha Gray of Milton-Freewater and Trooper Charles W. Cook were all transported to Providence Saint Mary’s Medical Center for treatment.
WSP said that drugs or alcohol are believed to be a factor in the crash. Charges against Hammond are pending.
