Duplex Fire Burns 4 Year Old

The City of Yakima Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 600 block of South 10th Ave. The alarm time was 5:32 Pm on Saturday, November 29, 2014.

The Shift Commander arrived and reported a duplex fire with attic involvement.

The first arriving fire engine immediately started putting water on the fire from the exterior. The fire was put our quickly with only smoke damage reported in the adjacent unit.

The unit where the fire occurred was occupied at the time of the fire. It was reported that occupants were crawling out of windows to escape the fire.

One adult women suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital by ambulance.

A 4 year old boy suffered 2nd degree burns on his legs estimated at 12% of his body and was also taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital by private vehicle. The child was slated to go to Harborview in the Seattle area for further treatment.

No other injuries were reported.

Two of three pet dogs died in the fire.

A juvenile playing with flammable liquids too close to an electric heater started the fire.
