Executive Director Kathy Trommald says goodbye to Sweet Onion Festival

WALLA WALLA, Wash.–The 33 Annual Sweet Onion Festival took place in downtown Walla Walla Saturday.

Every year the official state crop is honored on Main Street to celebrate the first harvest.

The event featured live music, games, cooking demonstrations and even a visit from the Seattle Seahawks 12 tour.

Local vendors showcased creative and innovative sweet onion entrees for all to enjoy and one woman who spent the last 17 years protecting the crop from imitation said this year’s event will be one she holds extra close to her heart.

“It’s a bitter sweet moment, I’m excited because I am looking forward to retirement, but after seventeen years of doing this event and seeing all of the changes that came before today it kind of touches my heart to be walking away, ” Executive Director of The Walla Walla Sweet Onion Marketing Committee Kathy Fry Trommald said.

Trommald has officially announced her retirement, but the festival will take place again next year.
