Fatal rollover on I-90 near Easton claims woman’s life, injures child in backseat

EASTON, Wash. — A 33-year-old woman from Western Washington passed away at the scene of a violent rollover crash on I-90 near Kachess Lake Road on Wednesday night.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the driver was heading east on I-90 through Easton with a seven-year-old child around 6:39 p.m. on May 11, 2022. WSP Trooper John Bryant took to social media, confirming that the driver left the roadway and struck a cement barrier to the right of the roadway.

The subsequent investigation confirmed that the driver tried to re-enter the roadway and rolled across each lane of the roadway, coming to a rest in the left lane. First responders rushed to the scene, and after attempting to resuscitate the woman, she was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Medics then transferred the seven-year-old passenger to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for emergency treatment. No further details on the child’s current condition have been made available at the time this story was published.

After her next of kin was notified by the Kittitas County Coroner’s Office, the victim was identified as Kirsten L. Kotz of Spanaway, WA. The child’s name is being withheld out of respect and privacy for their family.

Eastbound lanes of I-90 were completed blocked near Easton for approx. two hours and 47 minutes following the accident on Wednesday night.
