Fire burns 3 structures, leaves 18 residents homeless in Yakima
YAKIMA, Wash.– Yakima fire crews received a call about a fire just before 6 a.m. on Sunday morning on the 700 block of North 6th Avenue. When crews arrived on scene, they found three structures up in flames.
Tom Schneider, Chief Commander of Yakima Fire Department said officials believe the fire initially started in the shed and quickly spread to the house and fourplex.
“We were very overwhelmed off the bat, unfortunately the fire spread to the house. We used all the resources we had to maintain and stop the fire from spreading,” said Schneider.
All of the residents in the fourplex were able to get out in time.
According to Schneider, the shed is a complete loss, and 80% of the fourplex will have to be renovated.
The fire is currently under investigation.
There are 18 people left without a home due to the fire.
The American Red Cross is currently helping victims find places where they can stay.
